Buttermere, Lake District & Western Lakeland 2008 / 2009

Sunset
I like buttermere. It always seems to be one of the more quieter, stiller, peaceful lakes to be near…
The last two times I ventured there it was around May and September time.
The last time I was there it was a little bit disappointing my camera died on me whilst witnessing probably the most vivid, colourful sunset I’ve ever seen!, which happened to be over Haystacks. Nevertheless my friend captured it very well (see link - http://stuarthodgson.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/NATURE-photos) and I still managed to get one or two before the sunset really kicked in!
Up and around Haystacks are some very good vantage points for capturing sunsets, just remember to bring plenty of batteries and even a spare camera, just in case...

As well as Buttermere, this collection displays some of the possibly more lesser known surrounding areas, which includes Scale force Waterfall and Wastwater Lake.

I once actually climbed the over the Buttermere range via Black sail pass to Wastwater with a heavy backpack on (full to the brim), sleeping gear and extras, over a crazy period camping around the lakes – that’s dedication!

Wildflower //1

Whilst walking through the buttermere woodland area, stumbled upon some interesting close up views.

Wildflower //2

I particularly liked the light looking up at this tree/flower.

Tree Pattern.

This was discovered in the same woodland area.

Sunset //2

Sunset from Haystacks, looking west to the coast.
Haystacks has become one of a favored few views around the Lakes.
The sunset photos were the start of trying to capture the beauty of this vantage point.

Scale force Waterfall, near Buttermere
This is the highest waterfall in the Lakes, at around 120 ft. From Buttermere lake, it’s a nice but fairly tough walk in places, and if you want to get a good, close up view you have to scramble and climb over a few rock platforms/mini waterfalls leading up to its pinnacle.
Although the photos don’t have the greatest clarity, you can still get a sense of its sheer height..

Light over the Buttermere range

Black sail pass, Buttermere
I once actually climbed over the Buttermere mountain range via Black sail pass to Wastwater with a heavy backpack on (full to the brim), sleeping gear and extras, over a crazy period camping around the lakes – needless to say, it was tough!

Re-Haystacks
This was the time my camera died on me. These photos show the early build up of sunset.

Wastwater
One of the more dramatic and deepest lakes, usually depicted in a more brooding, low light. This was taken on a more typical sunny day, which makes a change!

Hardknott pass, looking down on the Ennerdale/Esk valley

Blea Tarn
Another favoured spot.
Once camped here also but last I found out, it is a national trust protected area so maybe not so wise to camp here again..
Again this was taken in the afternoon hours.
